The American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) has announced that it has resumed its membership in The World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) after an absence of seven years. The decision comes ahead of the 2023 CIBJO Congress, which will take place October 3–5 in Jaipur, India, a key coloured gemstone manufacturing and trade centre.
Marking a major milestone in the industry, the agreement maps out a programme of cooperation that will focus on areas such as information exchange, joint research, technical assistance, and initiatives promoting best practices, harmonisation of standards, and consumer protection.
The World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) and the International Grown Diamond Association (IGDA) have agreed to work together in protecting the confidence of consumers in both jewellery products and the jewellery industry, through the transparent development of standards, operating principles and terminology.
CIBJO President Gaetano Cavalieri has received the 2023 IPMI Jun-ichiro Tanaka Distinguished Achievement Award in recognition of his contribution to the precious metals industry.
