Warning issued about non-authorised individuals
fraudulently presenting themselves as CIBJO representatives

JANUARY 23, 2026

The World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) is issuing an urgent warning about individuals claiming to represent CIBJO or bodies directly affiliated with CIBJO, offering products and/or financial instruments endorsed by CIBJO.

The existence of such claims was brought to CIBJO’s attention today, January 23, 2026, by a businessperson in India, who had been approached by an organisation identifying itself as “CIBJO India,” or “CIBJO-India-Japan,” claiming to be a gold futures trader that is part of CIBJO. The Indian businessperson was referred to a website page, which included elements appropriated from the official CIBJO website, including the CIBJO logo.

It is needless to state that, as a non-profit representative association, CIBJO does not trade in any commercial products, nor financial instruments such as gold futures, and persons making claims are not authorized to do so, and most likely are committing a criminal act.

CIBJO is investigating who stands behind “CIBJO India” and/or “CIBJO-India-Japan,” and is making a formal complaint about the fraudulent claims to law enforcement authorities in a number of countries.

CIBJO urges all industry members to practice extreme caution when approached with business offers that seem out of the ordinary, and always to do proper due diligence before making a financial decision, as did the Indian businessperson who contacted us today.

If you are approached by individuals claiming to be CIBJO representatives, who you do not recognize or who are not identified on the CIBJO website (www.cibjo.org), CIBJO recommends that you verify their credentials by contacting the CIBJO Secretariat at cibjo@cibjo.org.
