Speaking during CIBJO’s Jewellery Industry Voices program at the VICENAZORO jewellery show on January 18, 2026. Daniel Nyfeler, Managing Director, Gübelin Gem Lab, considered he significant challenges being faced by the global gemstone and jewellery industry in providing verifiable supply chain data on the origin and authenticity, where traditional methods of testing and documentation are vulnerable to counterfeiting and lack interoperability.

He presented tracking and tracing technologies of Provenance Proof, which leverage two core elements. These are the application of DNA-based, nanoscale physical tracers, and a secure blockchain platform.

The resulting benefits, he explained, go beyond traceability – enhancing supply chain risk management, ensuring compliance with evolving international regulations, and combatting counterfeiting.
