Touring Shanghai and China
Delegates and accompanying persons traveling to Shanghai for the 2024 CIBJO Congress are encouraged to use the opportunity to visit the city, and experience its sights and culture, as well as other parts of China.
Tour packages for congress participants are being offered by Ctrip,one of China’s largest tour operators. The organisation of tour before, during (for accompanying persons) after after the congress must be arranged directly with Ctrip representatives, including payment.
The following are suggested tour packages, but other customised progammes can be arranged as well
SHANGHAI CITY STROLL
Departing from the Shangri-La Qiantan hotel between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM, the tour will cover Lujiazui, Yu Garden, the Bund and Xintiandi. Participants will return to the hotel between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
Located in Shanghai’s Pudong New Area, Lujiazui is today one of the most iconic and modern financial districts inthe world. It is known for its skyline dominated by skyscrapers, including the famous Pearl Tower of the East, the Shanghai Tower, and the Jinmao Tower. It is often called “Wall Street in China” because of its concentration of financial institutions, banks, and multinational companies
Yu Garden, or Yuyuan, is a famous classical garden, located in the center of the city, China. It was built in 1559 and covers an area of about 20,000 square metres divided into six areas, each with its unique style and features.
The Bund, which is also called Waitan, is a famous waterfront on the west bank of Huangpu River, built at the turn of the 20th Century, when Shanghai was an international city controlled by colonial powers.
Located in the center of the city, Xintiandi is a fashionable pedestrian street composed of old-style Shikumen residences and modern architecture.
Lunch will be at the participants’ expense, with the tour guide recommending alternative restaurants

SHANGHAI WATER TOWN
Departing from the Shangri-La Qiantan hotel between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM, the tour will cover Zhujiajiao, an ancient water town located on the outskirts of Shanghai. Participants will return to the hotel between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
With its rich history and unique architectural style, Zhujiajiao offers a pleasant escape from the bustle of the city. It is characterized by its well-preserved traditional architecture, narrow alleys, and picturesque canals. Walking along the stone bridge and cobblestone streets, you feel like you have traveled back back in time.
Among the highlights of Zhujiajiao are its numerous bridges, which connect different parts of the town. Each bridge has its own unique design that adds to the aesthetic appeal of the town.
In addition to the beautiful buildings, Zhujiajiao also has various cultural attractions. You can visit museums, temples and art galleries to get a deeper look at local history and art.
The town is also known for its delicious cuisine, especially for fresh seafood.

5-DAY TRIP TO BEIJING
The Chinese capital of Beijing is a city full of history and culture, with its most iconic site being the Forbidden City. Also known as the Palace Museum, it is a large palace and temple complex that was was the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and is now a museum displaying the country’s rich history and culture.
Just outside Bejing is the Great Wall of China, one of the most famous tourist attractions in the world. Stretching for thousands of kilometres across the north of the country, it is a symbol of the ancient Chinese civilization.
Day 1: Fly from Shanghai to Beijing in the morning, visit Tian’anmen Square and Beihai Park in the afternoon, and transfer to the hotel after dinner. Dinner will be at your own expense.
Day 2: Badaling Great Wall tour.
Day 3: Visit the Summer Palace in the morning and the Palace Museum in the afternoon.
Day 4: Visit the Temple of Heaven in the morning, and visit the old Beijing Hutong in the afternoon.
Day 5: Visit the Gong Wang Fu in the morning, transfer to the airport for lunch and the flight back to Shanghai.

5-DAY TRIP TO CHENGDU
Chengdu is the capital of southwestern China’s Sichuan province. Its history dates back to at least the 4th century B.C., when it served as capital for the Shu Kingdom. Artifacts from that dynasty are the focus of the Sanxingdui Museum.
The city is also home to the famous Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, a conservation center where visitors can view endangered giant pandas in a natural habitat.
Day 1: Fly from Shanghai to Chengdu, visit Chunxi Road, Taikoo Li, Wide and narrow Alley in the afternoon, and transfer to the hotel after dinner.
Day 2: Visit the giant panda base in the morning and visit the Sanxingdui Museum in the afternoon.
Day 3: Leshan Giant Buddha Day Tour.
Day 4: One-day trip to Dujiangyan.
Day 5: In the morning visit the Huanglongxi ancient town. Transfer to the airport after lunch, and fly back to Shanghai.
